A shadow
shields us from the direct sunlight. Generally, in the heat of the day, this is
a good thing. When it is hot, we like the shadows. We seek the shade.
God is glorious and we are standing
directly in the effulgence of His glory. That much glory is unbearable. Just
ask Moses. God’s holiness reveals our sins and scorches us with this knowledge
of the holy. We seek relief from His all-knowing gaze.
But God’s
grace extends to us. He mitigates His direct gaze upon our nakedness in the
gracious shadow of Christ. He covers us in His kindness and mercy so that we
are not burnt up in the revelation of His perfection. Clothed in Christ, we are
in the shadow of His grace.
