On Good Friday we remembered and participated
in the death of Jesus. We remembered that He died because we are sinners. Our
sins, past, present and future, contributed to His death. He died to set us
free from the power of sin. He took our sins upon Himself because we could not
pay for our own sins. And so, in His death, our sins are taken from us and
placed upon Him. The penalty and power of sin are crushed. The price is paid in
the dead Jesus.
But thanks be to God that the story
does not end there. Today, on Easter Sunday, we remember the life of Jesus and we participate in
His life. Death could not hold Him and He rose from the grave in victory. And
we are participants in this victorious life also. We are raised up with Jesus,
victors over sin and death. We still sin and we will die but sin and death will
be put to death and we will walk with Jesus forever in eternal life. What great
hope we have in the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ! We died with Him, we live
with Him. Though He died, He lives. Though we die, yet shall we live. Glory to
the Father, in Jesus Christ, His Son. Amen.
