A Vain Show

When we make ourselves important it is a vain show. The reality is that all of mankind is but a breath of God. But this is not to say that we are meaningless or unimportant. It is only to say that our importance is only in Christ. Apart from Him, we are nothing much to be considered. But in Him, we are considerable.

As we think about confessing sins, we need to be honest. We are not so great. We are not holy. Our struggles are not unfair. There is no struggle or trial that we have endured that adds up to the wounds of Christ. We may feel like our situation is unfair compared to others but we ought not to compare that way. The real issue is how have our sins offended a Holy God and necessitated the death of the Son of God. When we think of them that way, we do not try to justify ourselves. We do not try to do penance to pay for our sins. Our only response is to bow in humble submission to God in Christ to confess, repent and receive forgiveness.
