I have
been blessed to be able to do some traveling this Fall. It was a nice break.
But there is something better than vacation. Coming home. That moment is
particularly realized when you sit down at your table for an extended time of
food, drink and fellowship. You get to appreciate that which you have missed.
You reconnect with wife and children. You tell stories about the road but how
home is best.
This meal is like that. It is good to
be out in the world, doing the Lord’s work, experiencing the goodness of the
life that we live in Christ. But there is always a sense of pilgrimage in this
life. Not that we want to simply escape planet Earth and go to heaven. We are
not escapests. But in the sense that something is really not right with the
world. It is good but it is broken.
And so, a place of rest, a place of
refreshment, a place of forgiveness, a place of unity of fellowship, a place of
joy in the Holy Spirit, a place we long for in the Consummation of all things,
is the best place of all. This place is the picture of place. No wonder we love
the Table so much. Welcome home.
