Jesus gave the
Church gifts to build up the body in love, in the grace and peace of Christ. God
has established the means by which His Word is declared, established and lived
out in the brotherhood.
The Scriptures teach us what to believe
concerning God and what duty God requires of us. It is clear on the pages.
But there is another aspect of the Word
of God. The Word should be in us, not just in our thoughts, but abiding with
us. We are to be clothed with Christ in the inner man. We become one with God,
through Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit in a mystical union. This is
what it means to be in Christ.
It has been said that the sacrament of
the Lord’s Supper is an edible sermon. We see the bread and wine and we know
that the Lord’s body and blood were given for us. We know we are in Him and He
is in us. We know that we are welcome at His table. We know that He gives us
all that we need for physical and spiritual sustenance. So, eat this sermon and
be strong in the Word made flesh.
