Speak the Truth in Love

The Apostle tells the mature in the faith to speak the truth in love. This is a wonderful little phrase. It encapsulates so much about right speech and actions.
Christians are to be truth tellers. Christians don’t tell little white lies to alleviate tension, avoid conflict, or play the flatterer. We are not flatterers. Flatterers are liars seeking their own advancement.
But we do speak the truth in love. We do not go out of our way to hurt a brother or sister by blurting out the truth. We are gentle, patient and kind. We ought not tell a white lie but we might be wise in holding our tongue until an appropriate time to speak.
Remember to honor God in your speech and to seek the good of the other, speaking words of truth in love.

If you have failed to speak the truth or have failed to speak in love, then confess your sins and pray the Lord to give you wisdom and maturity in your speech.
