This
church has always taken weekly Communion. One of the arguments against doing so
is that it would be too common, too regular, not special. What? Would we skip a week of meals at home to make the next one more special?
The meal is for those who are hungry,
who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Thanks be to God that it is not a righteousness
all our own. As often as we do this, and we do this often, we get to remember what
the Lord Jesus did for us on the cross. We get to remember that He overcame
death. We get to remember that He calls us His children and promises, in this
meal, to love, feed and nourish us. How often should we remember this? At least
as often as we do this, on our way to remembering this and laying hold of
Christ, all the time.
