Every week we have the
pleasure of gathering together and hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ. At its
most basic level, the gospel is this, Jesus died for sinners. But not only did
Jesus die for sinners, the Father looked upon Jesus’s death as substitutional
atonement for those sinners, for you, for me.
What does substitutional
atonement mean? It means that instead of you dying to pay for your sins,
something you could not actually do, Jesus died to pay for your sins. The
Father accepted Jesus as the substitute, as the atonement, as the sacrificial
lamb.
The bottom line in all of this is that the Father’s wrath at
your sin is fully satisfied in the death of Jesus. There is no more substitute
for sins. There are no more sacrifices. Jesus paid it all. Your debt is clear.
Your heart is clean. You rise forgiven and you should feel light as a feather.
