They Shall Be Comforted

Jesus promises a blessing on those who mourn. They will be blessed because after they mourn they will be comforted. For the Christian, this comfort is not something that he has to drum up from inside himself. Nor is it merely time that comforts. Family and friends help but even they cannot fully comfort a deeply mourning soul. The comfort that Jesus is talking about comes first from the Holy Spirit.

Mourning may be for a night but joy comes in the morning. God comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. First the comfort from God, then the comfort to others.
